Work on McKenna stopbank wraps up

The McKenna stopbank near Westport has just been completed and West Coast Regional Council (WCRC) Chief Engineer Peter Blackwood says it is already providing some protection to the town.

Buller District Council has decided to endorse Westport’s Master Plan at its 26 March 2025 meeting.

The decision means that the work can continue on implementing elements of the Master Plan..

Work in refining the criteria for the Adaptation Relief Fund is ongoing, as the final parameters of the Westport flood mitigation scheme are worked out.

Locals have just over a week to have their say on the Draft Master Plan for Westport. Engagement got underway earlier this month and closes at 5pm on Monday 10 March.

The Westport community are being invited to engage on Draft Master Plan between Monday 10 February and 10 March 2025.

Discussions are underway with some Coates Street homeowners in Westport in relation to upcoming flood protection work. The work, which is being carried out by the West Coast Regional Council (WCRC), forms part of the Resilient Westport package of work.
