The scheme is divided into five main sections of stopbanks:
Lower Orowaiti, Upper Orowaiti, North End, Lower Buller (Wharf to Buller Bridge) and Upper Buller (SH67 from Buller Bridge to Nine Mile Road).
The Lower Buller stopbank dimensions:
Length: 2,100m
Still in design
Includes 70 metres of temporary barriers at Talley’s bund.
Estimated construction dates: Late 2026 to late 2027
LoweR Buller
Lower Buller and Talley's
Lower Buller will be a 2.1 km length of stopbanks and floodwalls from Buller Bridge via Esplanade and Wharf to Talley’s bund.
Completed: The portable barriers for the first 70 metres have been procured.
Current status: Geotechnical investigations and preliminary design underway. WSP Consultants have been commissioned to assess whether the bund at Talley’s is soundly engineered.
WSP have also been appointed for investigations and planning on the full Lower Buller stopbank.
Estimated construction dates:
- 700 metres from Buller Bridge towards wharf from late 2026*
