Business Continuity

The Westport Business Resilience & Continuity Campaign

Supporting Westport Business Resilience & Continuity is a key goal for local Emergency Management. The Westport Business Resilience & Continuity Campaign is a component of the Resilient Westport programme of work.

The campaign, which ran in late 2025, aimed to encourage and support local business owners, managers, and entrepreneurs to take simple actions today, to prepare for flooding and other emergency situations tomorrow.

The campaign launched with a free business networking event on Wednesday 29th October at EPIC In Westport. The event provided an opportunity for the local business community to connect with their peers facing similar challenges, share experiences, learn simple and effective ways to prepare, and access practical resources to improve their business resilience.

Why this matters: Every business that’s better prepared for the next disruption means faster recovery for the wider community. We’ve seen how floods can devastate local businesses – this is about changing that, through simple, cost-effective actions everyone can take.

The evening featured local community, industry, and business leaders sharing real experiences from past events and information about actionable strategies for being ready, free business risk assessment tools, and opportunities to further connect within the local business community.

Workshops

We then offered FREE workshops focusing on business continuity for all Westport business owners, managers, entrepreneurs and not for profit leaders. The sessions were designed for businesses and organisations of any size who want practical and actionable solutions to help their business or organisation stay strong in the face of any disruption.

The workshops were held at EPIC Westport on Tuesday, 25th November 2025 and Wednesday, 26th November 2025.

We had 27 attendees over the two days across 24 different businesses/organisations/NGOs. The workshops were well received with lots of ideas and good thinking floating around.

Who is ResOrgs?

ResOrgs is a small team of business resilience experts who help Kiwi businesses prepare for disruptions, whether from flooding, earthquakes, cyber-attacks, or something else. For more than 20 years, the team has worked with businesses of every shape and size – from small independent stores to bigger established companies.

We all know that preparation makes all the difference – when disruptions strike, businesses that cope the best are those who have planned how to reduce risks and have a Plan B up their sleeve if things go wrong.

That’s why we’re all about creating real, simple, and practical resources that actually make a difference and help businesses – including our range of free resources and booklets that provide straightforward support to help businesses plan and get back on their feet when “shut happens”.

The information we are sharing is all about this approach – giving businesses actionable steps to not just survive the next flood or other crisis, but also come back stronger.

Every business that’s better prepared for the next disruption means faster recovery for the wider community. We’ve seen how floods can devastate local businesses – this is about changing that, through simple, cost-effective actions everyone can take.
