Media Release: Successful tenderer for O’Conor Home rockwall named

Resilient Westport

Media Release

9 February 2026

Local West Coast company Rosco Contractors Ltd has successfully tendered to carry out the work to build a rock revetment wall on the Buller River near the O’Conor Home in Westport.

As part of the Resilient Westport flood protection work, a section of the Upper Buller stopbank will cross over O'Conor Home land. The alignment of the stopbank means some reinforcing of the riverbank is required.

West Coast Regional Council Chief Engineer Peter Blackwood says the work involves cutting and shaping the existing exposed face of the bank along the river’s edge and lifting and placing the rock for the wall. Once underway, it will take about eight weeks to complete.

The tender was advertised on the Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS) website and, of the two quotes received, Rosco’s was the preferred.

“We have about half of the 20,000 tonnes of rock needed to carry out the work. As Rosco Contracting Ltd already has the contract to provide the rock, they will oversee the delivery of the remaining rocks. A start date is yet to be confirmed,” says Mr Blackwood.
