Tree removal - Avery’s stopbank
Tree removal - Avery’s stopbank
Tree removal along Orowaiti Road in Westport will start taking place on Monday 4 August.
The work is being carried out in advance of the construction of the Avery’s stopbank, which is part of the Resilient Westport package of work.
The stopbank is awaiting consent, but in the meantime the West Coast Regional Council will be removing some trees to accommodate the planned stopbank.
The trees that require removing are mostly pōhutukawa along with some Phoenix palms, pine trees and shrubs. Work is set to begin on Monday 4 August and is expected to take three days.
The trees will be removed by Rosco Contractors Ltd. They will be chipped and transported off-site for composting via the Buller District Council’s green waste programme at the Westport Transfer Station, ensuring sustainable disposal and avoiding landfill.
In addition to the removal of the larger trees, a Queen Elizabeth II commemorative magnolia tree, currently located on the embankment, will be relocated. Roscos will manage the relocation of this tree. An excavator will be used to dig under the tree before removing it and transporting it to Victoria Square in Westport.
Traffic management plans will be in place where required.
